Cardno GS, Inc., now Stantec GS, Inc. has an opportunity for a full-time Senior Noise Analyst to play an integral part in helping support our nationwide Department of Defense environmental planning programs. This position could be based anywhere in the U.S. Working in a team environment, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading and contributing to site visits, noise data collection, and analysis of aircraft noise and other operational impacts at both airfields and in airspace for environmental assessments, environmental impact statements, Air Installation Compatible Use Zone programs and associated studies CONUS and OCONUS.

This position will provide important support to environmental planning documentation evaluating potential effects from U.S. military training programs. The successful candidate must have the legal right to work in United States. Certain assignments may require ability to obtain a security clearance.

Job Description:
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aeronautical), Acoustics, Mathematics, or closely related field.
  • 10+ years of professional experience applying learned skills in aircraft noise analysis with emphasis on military aircraft.
  • Independently use noise modeling software to analyze potential impacts from a variety of actions. Experience desired with software: NOISEMap , RNM, MRNMap, SARNAM, BNoise, AEDT, AAM, and NMSim.
  • Experience with, and understanding of, both military and civil aviation.Understanding of typical noise metrics, including: maximum sound level (Lmax); sound exposure level (SEL); day-night average sound level (DNL); onset-rate adjusted day-night average sound level (Ldnmr); C-weighted DNL (CDNL).
  • Understanding of supplemental noise metrics, including: number of events above threshold (NA); speech interference; classroom learning interference; potential for hearing loss; workplace noise.
  • Understanding of types of military noise (subsonic, supersonic) at airfields and in Special Use Airspace.
  • Understanding of noise impacts associated with aircraft maintenance activities.
  • Understanding of noise modeling in Special Use Airspace.
  • Demonstrated technical writing skills and strong verbal communication able to prepare written reports detailing the results of technical studies.
  • Provide expert technical review of various planning documents in the field of noise/acoustics and Special Use Airspace.
  • Provide expert planning advice to clients in the field of noise/acoustics, to include blast noise and sonic booms, and Special Use Airspace applications.
  • Experience preparing or contributing to environmental assessments/impact statements pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
  • Demonstrated experience and strong desire for multi-disciplinary internal collaboration, and proposal development Strong interpersonal and social skills and ability to interact across a broad range of audiences/technical backgrounds including internal and external clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for project work.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Acoustics, or closely related field.
  • Advanced data analysis and interpretation skills.
  • Conduct field noise measurements.
  • Knowledge of and experience with ArcGIS.
  • Knowledge of and experience with SQL Server
